St. Francis Xavier Catholic School is located at 160 Champaca St., Maligaya Park Subdivision, Novaliches, Quezon City. The Parish Church of St. Francis Xavier was built by Jaime Cardinal Sin on December 3, 1992 and entrusted its pastoral care to the Xaverian Missionaries. The first parish priest, Rev. Fr. Vincent Salis, together with committed parishioners decided to open a Learning Center. The idea of establishing a Parish School was welcomed by the community since there is an imperative need of giving quality education to the children on several depressed areas of the Parish and the congestion of learners in the public schools.
By God’s grace, the Learning Center was established in June 1994, through the cooperation of many committed parishioners and through the help of ERDA Foundation Inc. -- which provided financial assistance and school supplies to Learning Center. It was given the name of St. Francis Xavier Learning Center to honor the patron Saint of the Parish.
The first school year 1994-1995 initiated with eighty nine (89) pupils enrolled with two teachers employed and had Mrs. Concepcion Castillo, a retired professional teacher with a lot of experience in teaching, as the first School Principal. Mrs. Castillo served enthusiastically as volunteer without pay. On the following school year 1995-1996 St. Francis Xavier Learning Center welcomed and accommodated one hundred thirty three (133) pupils. The very first school building was a gift from the Xaverian Missionaries of Japan through the coordination of Rev. Fr. Peter Venturini, acting Parish Priest at that time.
On February 11, 1996 the second parish priest, Rev. Fr. Jorge Rosales and Rev. Fr. Rodrigo Vazquez as Parochial Vicar organized the opening of a Parish Library in order to support the educational program of the Learning Center and to help other students of the parish in their academic research. This new project motivated students and parishioners with proper materials for reading and learning. By having a book donation campaign lead by Mrs. Rebecca Harder and other volunteers, the parish began receiving different kinds of books and encyclopedias from different organizations and people of good will. During that time, the school library contains more than sixteen thousand books including all kinds of encyclopedia.
In 1996, the Department of Education Culture and Sports (DECS) and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) granted the school the proper permits to operate a complete elementary curriculum. From a Learning Center the school was officially named St. Francis Xavier Parochial School Inc. In 1997 through the request of Rev. Fr. Rodrigo Vazquez, the Manos Unidas Organization, which is based in Madrid Spain, donated a sum of $141, 340 for the construction of the school building. Finally, the building was blessed by His Eminence Jaime Cardinal Sin on June 16, 1999.
By that time St. Francis Xavier Parochial School was already well-known in the area and became an active member of the Manila Archdiocesan of Parochial Schools Association MAPSA. Indeed the school traveled a long way from its humble beginning. It was a decade filled with love, aspirations, sacrifices, patience and the will to mold young minds to be more discerning in the happenings in life.
The school has become an active member of MAPSA since then and continued to grow with the number of enrollees increasing considerably. It has started to offer the Secondary Curriculum in 2005 which is now fully recognized by the DepEd. The Commencement Exercises of the first batch of High School Graduates took place on April 1, 2009.
On May 1, 2011 SFXCS was turned over to the Diocese of Novaliches by the Xavierian Fathers. It is now the 8th school officially owned by the Roman Catholic Bishop of Novaliches Educational System under the strong leadership of Bishop Antonio R. Tobias, D.D. with Rev. Father Albert N. Delvo being the current Superintendent and School Director of the eight schools.
St. Francis Xavier Catholic School will continue its vision of announcing Christ to the young generation by molding them in His image. The small seed which gave birth time ago to a small educational center is becoming a stable strong tree in the community where young generations are all accommodated in her branches. It is a tree nurtured with love and strong determination by her administrators as time passes by in the expectations of bringing Christ to everyone who comes to be formed under the branches of St. Francis Xavier Catholic School.
